We are currently in the dusty South Pacific town of Gizo, Solomon Islands. Three big cheers for our new U.S. President, Barack Obama!!!! Yahoo!!! It feels good to be an American again.
The photo above is a Fijian mermaid (aka Nicole) posing for my sister, Gia's, "Soul Beautiful" calendar. Gia created the calendar with the goal of raising money for foster kids to participate in a self-empowerment, supportive, and fun retreat in the Sierra mountains near her home of Truckee, California. Team DK is getting ready for a passage up to Kavieng, New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. We may stop at the Treasury Islands, enroute to Kavieng, or we may just go for the big passage of 500 miles to Kavieng all at once, still deciding. We have had a fantastic time in the Solomon Islands and are finding it difficult to leave.
